The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has responded to a memo from the Decentralization Secretariat, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development inviting her at the publication of administrative inquiry findings on the Freetown City Council.
The Ministry noted that they have completed the administrative investigation that was carried out on FCC, adding that the report of the investigation has been shared with the Minster of Local Government and Rural Development.
The Ministry further invited the Mayor Aki-Sawyerr to attend the official publication of the document today at their Conference Hall at 2:30 PM.
In response, the Mayor of Freetown stated that she has been aware of the memo circulating on social media, inviting her to the official publication of the Administrative investigation report.
She noted that the memo is date on Wednesday 16 February 2022, adding that the Freetown City Council Head of Protocol, through the Chief Administrator sent a letter to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, informing him that the Mayor would be in Monrovia on an official assignment from Tuesday 15 February to Thursday 17 February 2022.
“You are therefore aware that I am currently out of the country and that given the extremely short notice, I am unable to return to Freetown in time for the said meeting,” the Mayor stated.
She added that “I’m sure you will agree that as the Mayor of Freetown, it is very important that I am at the official publication in person as the investigation focused on the institution I lead.”
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr noted that she has cut short her trip in Liberia and will return to Freetown today evening, and asked for the publication to be deferred to early next week when she will be available to attend in person.
