In a recent interview with Truth Media, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr of Freetown strongly criticized the attempted transfer of the Freetown City Council’s (FCC) Finance Officer, describing it as “an attempt to undermine the effectiveness of FCC.”

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr emphasized that the Finance Officer plays a critical role in ensuring financial accountability and operational efficiency within the Council. She expressed concern that the transfer could disrupt key administrative processes and hinder the FCC’s ability to deliver services effectively to residents.

“This move appears politically motivated and is clearly aimed at weakening the administrative capacity of the City Council,” the Mayor stated. She reassured residents that the Council remains committed to maintaining transparency, efficiency, and good governance despite external pressures.

The Mayor called on relevant authorities to reconsider the decision, highlighting the importance of stability and continuity in managing the Council’s finances. She stressed that any actions affecting senior staff should prioritize institutional integrity over political considerations.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr’s comments have sparked public discussion about the independence of local government operations and the need to safeguard key administrative positions to ensure effective service delivery to Freetown’s residents.
