The ongoing criminal proceedings against Yeabu Zainab Sheriff were adjourned to March 4, 2026, following a court session this week in Freetown.
Sheriff appeared before Magistrate Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Monday, February 23, 2026, where the prosecution’s case against her was considered. During the hearing, the magistrate denied her bail application and ordered that she be remanded in custody at the Female Correctional Facility in Freetown pending further proceedings.
Prosecutors allege that Sheriff made public statements amounting to incitement and the use of threatening language, offences they say contravene Sierra Leonean law. Although the full particulars were not detailed in open court, Sheriff denied the charges.
After ruling that bail was inappropriate at this stage, Magistrate Jah set the next hearing for March 4, 2026, allowing the prosecution additional time to prepare its case and present evidence.
The adjournment marks a key date in a closely followed legal matter, drawing attention nationwide as supporters, political figures, and civil society observers watch how the judiciary handles the case.
Sheriff will remain in remand until the next hearing, when further submissions and witness testimony are expected to be introduced.
