The APC have refused to accept the verdict delivered by the electorate in March 2018 and in June 2023. Immediately after handing over power to the SLPP in April 2018, APC leaders, members and supporters started undermining the security and stability of the state.

In August 2022, they embarked on violent demonstrations in the capital city of Freetown and in some provincial towns, calling for the resignation of the democratically elected President. During the course of the violent demonstrations, six Police officers were brutally murdered and several civilians killed and others seriously injured. So far, nobody has been convicted of the killing of the six Police officers. This incident happened exactly fifteen months ago.

On Sunday, 26th November, 2023 a group of renegade soldiers, ex-military and Police personnel and their civilian supporters violently attacked key military installations and removed arms and ammunition from the military armory which they used to cause mayhem in the capital city of Freetown and its environs.

In trying to swell their numbers, they broke into the Central Correctional Centers and set free well over one thousand five hundred inmates including hardened criminals, murderers and armed robbers. Thankfully, only a few of them joined the melee of bandits and criminals who were determined to subvert the state.

The security forces have been able to either apprehend or kill some of the people involved in the unlawful activities that took place on Sunday, November 26. One of their ring leaders was fatally shot in the leg and he died of his injuries. He is to be buried like the dog that he was.

Several people that have been associated with the unfortunate incident of Sunday, 26th November, 2023 are either opposition members or supporters. It is too early to conclude that, the main opposition APC was behind the coup attempt that took place on Sunday, 26th November, 2023. Circumstantial evidence is however pointing to the direction of the APC as being behind the coup attempt of Sunday, 26th November, 2023. It must be stated that, the APC have openly condemned the incidents that took place on Sunday, 26th November, 2023. All the ring leaders of the November 26 incidents either arrested or killed have or had special affinity with the APC party. Leather Boot, APC Sheriff, Yaetay Yaetay, etc are well-known supporters, members and sympathisers of the APC Party.

We call on the security forces to follow every lead in their investigations and get to the bottom of them. No stone should be left unturned in trying to identify the sponsors/financiers and planners of such a dastardly attack on the peace and stability of the country.

It is very clear that the APC are desperate and hungry for power. They are ready and even willing to do anything and everything to unseat this government. Their quest for power is inherent in their DNA. Let us give peace a chance!

In his address to the nation on Sunday, 26th November, 2023 President Dr. Julius Maada Bio said, “Let us come together as one people, one nation…Our strength lies in our unity and it is with solidarity that we can overcome challenges that come our way…I call on all political leaders, traditional leaders, civil society and citizens across Sierra Leone, to continue working to preserve the peace of our nation”.

We join President Dr Julius Maada Bio to call on all Sierra Leoneans to be peaceful, law-abiding and promote the things that bind us together as one country, one people.

Let us give peace a chance!
