Dear President Julius Maada Bio,

I hope this letter reaches you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to address a matter of profound importance concerning the recent formal request filed by the legal team of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, seeking permission for his travel to Nigeria for medical treatment.

As concerned citizens, we have been closely monitoring the developments surrounding this request and feel compelled to bring to your attention the potential ramifications that may extend beyond the realm of medical care. There are alarming indications that suggest a strategic manoeuvre by Mr Koroma’s legal team, possibly with the involvement of influential figures in Nigeria, to enable the former president to evade justice under the pretext of medical treatment.

In a recent television interview, JFK, one of Ex-President Koroma’s lawyers, made statements that raised questions about the sincerity of the former president’s intentions. JFK conveyed a dismissive attitude towards the charges levelled against Ex-President Koroma, including treason and other offences against the state. This, coupled with a blatant disregard for your authority by advising against considering President Koroma’s travel request, adds a layer of concern to the situation.

It is our firm belief that allowing Former President Koroma to leave the country under these circumstances would not only compromise the principles of justice but could also be perceived as a calculated attempt by the former president and his associates to escape accountability. The citizens of Sierra Leone, whose trust and confidence your administration has earned, are expressing their apprehension and dissatisfaction with the prospect of Former President Koroma seeking medical treatment in Nigeria.

We understand that the government of Sierra Leone, under your leadership, is committed to upholding the rule of law and fostering democratic values. Therefore, we implore you to exercise utmost caution and thoroughly investigate the legitimacy of Former President Koroma’s medical treatment request. It is crucial to ascertain whether this is a genuine need for medical attention or a strategic move to circumvent the legal processes.

Furthermore, we wish to highlight the potential consequences if Mr Koroma is allowed to travel to Nigeria under dubious circumstances. The citizens of Sierra Leone, in their collective voice, express concern that permitting the former president to leave for Nigeria could lead to a significant democratic backlash during your tenure. The perception of allowing a figure with a controversial past to elude justice may erode the hard-earned democratic progress of the country over the past five years.

In considering alternative solutions, we propose that Mr. Koroma seeks medical attention in Sierra Leone. If his health condition requires specialized care, arrangements could be made for his doctor to visit him in Sierra Leone. Mr. Koroma’s ties to the nation, having been born here and having served the country for 11 years, should be a compelling reason for him to address his health concerns within the borders of Sierra Leone.

We understand the delicate nature of this matter and the potential implications it holds for the nation. Your decision in this regard will undoubtedly shape the perception of justice, accountability, and the democratic values that Sierra Leone stands for. We trust in your leadership and urge you to prioritize the interests and trust of the citizens in making this crucial decision.

In conclusion, we appreciate your attention to this matter and your commitment to upholding the principles that underpin Sierra Leone’s democratic fabric. We hope that this letter serves as a sincere and earnest appeal to safeguard the democratic progress achieved under your leadership.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration.

Sincerely,

National Political Prophet
