After all that has happened these past four years the time has come for the people of Sierra Leone to show that they are serious about playing an active role in the governance of the state, as the government of Julius Maada Bio has set the first week of September 2023 for voter registration for the upcoming 2023 presidential, parliamentary, ward, and council elections.

It is safe to say that these past four years have been the most interesting relative to governance, especially how well or poorly the government handled the people’s money.

The events of these past four years have pointed to one moment in time: the date for the 2023 elections. With a date set for registration, the show is officially on the road to either replacing or keeping President Bio in his position at State House. If you feel like the president has done his work and you are pleased with him, then by all means make sure you come out and register to make your pleasure with this government known to all and sundry. Consequently, if you feel like Bio has failed you and hasn’t done what he promised to do, you also must register to show that on Election Day. All the issues of the past four years point to one day in time, for which day we all have to register to state either our content or discontent with the ruling cabal. But here are a few reminders of why we should all register to vote for 2023.

After making grand promises to deal with our main governance shortcoming of shameless corruption and other acts of financial leakages or indiscipline, audit reports on this government have shown that far from what was promised this regime remains the most wasteful in recent memory.

Monies that were meant to keep the country afloat were spent in the most wasteful and careless of ways. From the Auditor General’s reports to disclosures by investigative media organisations, particularly the Africanist Press, this government has shown gross disregard for financial discipline as monies were dispersed and people hired for positions that weren’t necessary, going as far as doubling roles and many people with little or no qualifications making way more than heads of state apparatus and teachers and principals
