The growing desperate moves by the current Leader and Chairman of the All People’s Congress (APC) party, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to handpick his successor is an unwise action with huge political ramifications.
The APC is a democratic political party. It is not an oligarchy or monarchy where a selected few or just one person can decide who steers its affairs.
It is important to note that the hallmark of democracy is an election, wherein in this case, it is only the delegates of the party that will elect their Leaders.
At this juncture, let me implore the current Leader and Chairman of the APC to allow a free and fair elections process devoid of personal interest and affections.
It is high time that as the Leader and Chairman, Dr. Koroma exhibit statesmanship and allow a decent democratic process to unravel and the wishes and aspirations of the APC electorate be respected.
Let me end by registering that, “Dr Koroma cannot impose a successor on the APC because the party is not a family property and the membership of the party will eventually have to decide who their Chairman will be. My advice to Dr Koroma is, stay back, support and not dictate the process.”
