The alleged beating of the newly elected APC Secretary General, Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya by the Presidential Guards at Hill Station is not an encouraging sign for the 24 Elections.

What is more disappointing and worrying was the initial reaction to the unfortunate incident by some senior government officials and supporters of the ruling SLPP.

Some of them pretended as if lawyer Dumbuya and others who were allegedly beaten by the Presidential Guards were merely lying and that the incident was stage-managed for political propaganda …

The unfortunate reactions by many of the SLPP big guns reminded me of many years ago in Bo Town when the then the SLPP flag bearer Maada Bio was stoned as a result, he sustained an injury on the head.

I remember painfully listening to one of the APC deputy ministers addressing the issue at the Ministry of Information and Communications where he downplayed the incident saying they had just seen a plaster on Bio’s head but they were not sure whether he was injured or not.

The then deputy minister asked Maada Bio to bring pictures of the raw injured head as evidence otherwise they would hardly believe that Maada Bio sustained an injury on his head.

The deputy minister in his attempt to discredit Maada Bio’s report of his head injury went further to say how could a stone injure somebody in the middle of his head.

After listening to that statement, I was angry and disappointed about the lack of human feelings and empathy shown to candidate Maada Bio.

Similarly, yesterday’s incident and the reactions from many SLPP members just reinforced my belief that many Sierra Leone Politicians in power are careless about the future.

Most of them focus only on swimming in the current political swimming pool created by the power they enjoy today than thinking about how they gonna be when they leave power either in June 24th or 2028 depending on the decision of Sierra Leoneans.

By the looks of things, the June elections are not going without political violence.

This is because many of the SLPP governing party members including senior officials of government are determined to demonstrate to the APC, a party perceived or known for violence, that the current SLPP is not the Late Tejan Kabbah’s SLPP meaning this SLPP is not as peaceful and decent as the SLPP of Pa Kabbah.

If you Are Hunted Don’t Make Noise Where You Hide.

Knowing fully well how the state security most times brutally deals with citizens and the opposition members during political rallies or the like, Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya should have avoided going through Hill Station, especially by the road passing by the Presidential Lodge.

Even though that does not justifies or give the right to any of the presidential guards to brutally beat him and those who had chosen to use that road.

But the beating of Mr. Dumbuya and some of the APC people who used that route showed disregard for human rights by the said presidential guards.

However, except if I am wrong, the APC has the authorization to enter Freetownown with their flag bearer Dr.Samura Kamara, and I don’t think the police had informed the APC leaders that the Hill station should not be used by any APC person.

So, aggressively descending on those who used the road on their way to the city of Freetownown is an act of lawlessness and disrespect for human rights and a sign of weakness on the part of the government.

Even though some were hypocritically calling on Lawyer Dumbuya to complain to the police saying that the police will investigate, such statements left me cracking because I strongly believe this military brutality would not be investigated and those presidential guards won’t be punished for their actions.

Like the incident relating to Maada Bio’s head injury, I don’t think anyone will be charged for the violence meted out against Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya and others.

Most times, instead of our politicians focusing on how to govern and deliver the promises they made to the citizens during campaigns, they are always busy comparing or copying the wrong things of the past government.

This tit-for-tat violence between these two main political parties has to stop.

It is on this note, I call on our Politicians to stop the insensitive attitude toward their counterparts.
I rest my case.
