The division in the APC is currently holding a firm grip especially among members of the Interim Transitional Governance Committee that are delegated the responsibility to run the affairs of the party for the time being.
Since the formation of this committee ad up to date, there is factional spilt existed among the members and that has created disagreement in whatever decision that comes from each side of the divide. This division has put the APC under siege and if something is not urgently done to heal the wounds; the party will be heading for the doom.
Though effort had been made to restore peace in the ITGC, but it appears that that peace did not hold firm as there are always disagreement at any time issues arises. Recently, the interim Secretary General of the ITGC, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, on 16th October, 2022 published a provisional voters’ registration figures, which according to him, emanated from the party tallying centeres. The data from the ITGC Secretary General indicates that 2,628,199 being collated as the total registrants for the North, North-West, South, East, and Western Area.
According to the data released by the ITGC interim Secretary General, Western Area both Urban and Rural have the highest registrants (comprising of 943,261 i.e. 95%) followed by the North and the other regions. These figures, according to ITGC Secretary General, were collated by the APC party agents across the 3,630 registration centres for which the party decides to publish to promote transparency.
On the other hand, Peter Conteh, Interim Chairman of the ITGC, thrashed the figures and considered it as misleading.
According to Peter Conteh, such a figure did not come from him neither approved by him as the Chairman, and therefore called on the public to discountenance it as null and void.
“The figures circulating and publishing are false and do not reflect the actual result collated by the APC registration team headed by Ahmed Sesay Esq,” Peter Conteh said in a quick public notice published o social media to counter the figures published by Hon. Abdul Kargbo. The Chairman also warns all those who are taking upon themselves to put out press statement without his approval to desist forthwith.
However, when ITGC released the figures of the voter registration, majority where questioning them for putting the cart before the horse. Critical views captured by this press reveal that the APC acted ultra vires of the law by publishing the voters’ registration figures which is supposed to be done by Electoral Commission.
Many are now asking why is the APC so desperate to publish the voters’ registration figures without waiting for ECSL, who is the legitimate body authorize by law to do so. It is not a Usurping of power? Or has the APC smelt the rat? Why the mad rush?
These are questions on the lips of liked minded Sierra Leoneans.
