In a significant move aimed at promoting justice and rehabilitation, the leader of the SLPP National Young Generation Council, Ing. Francis Alpha Kallon, along with his team, arrived in Kenema City today to represent Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh for the release of prisoners from the Kenema Correctional Center.

This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to support reintegration programs and foster a more equitable justice system.

The ceremony, which took place at the correctional center, witnessed the release of several inmates who had been identified as eligible for pardon. This action aligns with the government’s broader goal of addressing overcrowding in prisons and ensuring that those who have shown signs of rehabilitation are given a second chance at life.

Ing. Kallon, speaking on behalf of the Chief Minister, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stressing that the government is committed to justice, peace, and the future of the nation. “This is not just about freeing people from prison; it’s about restoring hope and giving individuals a chance to contribute positively to society,” Kallon said.

Community members, local authorities, and family members of the released prisoners gathered in large numbers, expressing joy and gratitude for the gesture. Many lauded the Chief Minister’s dedication to addressing issues within the correctional system and offering support for the reintegration of former inmates.

The event marks a key moment in the government’s continued efforts to bring reform and foster a spirit of rehabilitation in Sierra Leone’s correctional facilities. By working with local communities, the government hopes to ensure that released individuals are met with opportunities for meaningful change and reintegration.

This initiative is expected to inspire similar actions in other districts across Sierra Leone, as the government remains focused on enhancing the nation’s justice system while promoting the values of redemption and community strength.
