The recent brazen incursion by Guinea’s military into Yenga is a direct and dangerous assault on the territorial integrity of Sierra Leone.
Yenga is more than a dot on a map. It is a living community, a patch of earth that carries the hopes, struggles, and stories of generations of Sierra Leoneans.
Yenga is not about colonial border ambiguity; it is about Guinea’s incremental expansion and occupation of our vulnerable border areas.
Yenga is a strategic gateway rich in natural resources: kimberlite diamonds, gold, iron ore, and rare earth minerals.
The Guinean government, with its extensive geological knowledge, is fully aware of this and is acting with calculated aggression. They are building military installations, deploying troops, and systematically intimidating and displacing our local citizens. From their perspective, it is an opportunity to expand Guinea’s territorial reach from Yenga to Kambia.
In this context, our political and diplomatic engagements must be fierce, coordinated, and unyielding with a sense of urgency. When a nation is under threat, the state can not afford to be distracted.
Let Yenga be the site where we prove that African nations can resolve disputes without force, and borders can be bridges, not barriers or battlefields.
A definitive resolution of the Yenga occupation will solidify the border between Sierra Leone and Guinea and serve as a positive example of peaceful conflict resolution, fostering greater stability and cooperation in the spirit of African solidarity.
But make no mistake: Yenga is, and must remain, part of Sierra Leone.
How can we defend our borders when all the police and soldiers are deployed in check points harassing drivers and bike riders
Working for politicians and men in authority leaving the borders of the country vulnerable
Only God can see us through
Salone soldiers now adays, nor dae defend d kontri, live of the pipul again
