A little over two years ago (January 2024), Solomon Jamiru did something very very few Sierra Leoneans have ever done — HE RESIGNED as President Bio’s Press Secretary.

Two years before, in the aftermath of the-August 10 violent nationwide protests, Solomon Jamiru had again shocked the nation when he famously recorded a WhatsApp audio message urging for calm, national cohesion, and caution on the part of the government in which he was serving as Deputy Information Minister at the time.

To publicly suggest that the administration he served was not exercising enough caution in its response to the protests was such a daring thing to say in a country where party loyalty from people who have been placed in lucrative government positions (defined as see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil) is non-negotiable. Any deviation is often seen as a sinful betrayal (more like biting the hands that feed you).

But it looked like Solomon, could not, in good conscience, continue with business as usual. So he resigned as State House Press Secretary in 2024 in order to focus on his law career, according to government sources at the time. (I hope many Sierra Leoneans support his practice).

Those who know Solomon often describe him as humble and honest.

I got a feel of that humility in 2021, when, at my invitation as then National Coordinator of Chozen Generation S/L, he delivered the keynote address at a data protection townhall event we organized to advocate for a data protection law.

I would describe him as a very decent , unassuming and approachable leader. Very brilliant and eloquent, too.

What do you think of Solomon Jamiru?
