Kambia District is believed by political analysts to be one of the most highly contest districts in Sierra Leone in the June 2023 elections.

The district is the home of the leader of the National Grand Coalition -Sierra Leone’s third largest political party. The district, traditionally used to be a stronghold of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) but that trajectory changed considerably since the 2007 elections.

It became a stronghold of the All People’s Congress (APC) but the party suffer losses in the district in 2018 due to the advent of the NGC party. Votes in the district was shared almost equally.

According to the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) five political parties will contest for various positions in the district.

Five candidates from five political parties will contest for the local council chairmanship position in the district.

 

Mohamed Yayah Bangura will contest for the NGC, Amadu Isatu Kamara will represent the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Mohamed Alim Kamara will contest for the SLPP, Mohamed A. M. Mansaray for the APC and Sarah Morgan will contest for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Only three parties field in candidates for councillor election.

The APC, SLPP and NGC will have candidates to contest for councillor election.

Four political parties present candidates for member of parliament election. NDA join APC, SLPP and NGC to field in candidate for the parliamentary election.

Sierra Leone will go to the polls a week from today on 24 June.
