The All People’s Congress (APC) Internal Elections Management Committee (IEMC) announced the successful conclusion of its nationwide lower-level internal elections held on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
According to a preliminary statement issued by the IEMC’s National Coordinator, the party conducted elections to fill 4,014 positions across all 446 wards in Sierra Leone’s 17 administrative districts. Voting was carried out by secret ballot, limited strictly to duly registered and verified members.
The IEMC described the electoral process as generally peaceful, orderly, and transparent, noting that candidate agents and accredited observers were present at most polling centers. Counting was conducted openly at the polling stations immediately after the polls closed.
Despite the largely successful rollout, the Committee acknowledged some logistical and procedural challenges. These included the late arrival of electoral materials in some remote areas, the pending receipt of final voter registers in isolated wards and isolated incidents involving disputes over voter eligibility, candidate listings, and procedural compliance.
In certain centers, polling had to be temporarily suspended to restore order and clarify procedures. The IEMC stated that all complaints and petitions will be handled strictly according to the party’s dispute resolution mechanisms, with the possibility of recommended reruns or corrective measures following proper investigation.
As provisional results from polling centers are actively being collated, the IEMC issued a strong warning to party members and the general public to disregard unofficial tallies circulating on social media. The Committee stressed that only results officially certified and declared by the IEMC should be considered valid.
The IEMC commended the discipline shown by party members, aspirants, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), and election officials throughout the exercise, calling the elections a “significant milestone in strengthening internal democracy” within the APC.
A comprehensive final report detailing certified results and further observations will be released once the collation and adjudication processes are complete.
