The All Peoples Congress (APC) announced Monday the arrival of International Moral Guarantors in Sierra Leone, a visit prompted by the opposition party’s escalating concerns over stalled electoral reforms and unfulfilled political agreements.
In a press release dated April 13, 2026, the APC stated that the international delegation’s visit follows the party’s sustained engagement regarding the inadequate implementation of the Agreement for National Unity (ANU) and the Tripartite Committee Recommendations.
The APC cited a “lack of meaningful progress” on key provisions related to transparency and institutional accountability. The party specifically condemned the recent appointment of Edmond Alpha as Chief Electoral Commissioner, arguing that the move actively undermines public confidence in the nation’s democratic institutions.
In response to these developments, the APC reaffirmed its decision to withdraw its Members of Parliament and Local Council representatives from all governance structures. The party stated that this boycott will remain in effect pending tangible progress on the agreed-upon reforms.
“The APC reiterates its commitment to peace, national unity, and democratic governance,” the statement read. “However, the Party emphasizes that these principles must be underpinned by trust, transparency, and good faith.”
Noting high public tensions exacerbated by poor living conditions, the APC urged the visiting international mission to facilitate sincere dialogue to ensure all ANU commitments are honored.
National Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya, who signed the release, called on party members and supporters to remain calm and disciplined during the talks. Updates regarding the continuity of the party’s lower-level elections are expected to be announced following the conclusion of the international delegation’s visit.
