Jagaban, a prominent figure in Sierra Leonean politics, has officially declared his intention to contest for the presidency under the All People’s Congress (APC) in the 2028 elections. While he has yet to receive formal endorsement from the APC leadership, his announcement has already stirred discussions across the political landscape.

Jagaban first rose to prominence in 2023 when he attempted to secure the APC running mate position. However, his bid fell short due to his late entry into the political scene, a misstep he has since rectified by declaring his ambitions early this time around.

A multifaceted individual, Jagaban is celebrated for his diverse ethnic heritage, with roots in both Port Loko in the Northeastern region and Blama in the East. Although currently residing in the United States, he has earned widespread respect in Sierra Leone as a philanthropist and religious leader. His investments in both political and social projects have garnered him immense admiration, solidifying his reputation as a figure dedicated to the country’s progress.

Jagaban’s announcement places him among a competitive pool of APC candidates, including Dr. Ibrahim Bangura of Fourah Bay College, prominent Freetown lawyer JF Kamara, and Hon. Chernor Bah, among others.

As part of his initial outreach, Jagaban plans to host a press conference next week to outline his vision and programs to the media and the general public. Recently, he demonstrated his commitment to the APC by donating a significant quantity of stationery to the party’s Secretary General’s office, a gesture that reflects his dedication to grassroots development and organizational support.

The announcement of Jagaban’s candidacy is expected to heighten political activity within the APC and spark broader debates on the future leadership of Sierra Leone. With the 2028 elections still years away, Jagaban’s early declaration sets the stage for a dynamic and competitive race.
