After Adebayor, a Sierra Leonean based in Holland, made threatening remarks calling for a one-day sit-at-home strike followed by a two-day demonstration to remove perceived obstacles, Epic Radio invited the National Publicity Secretary of the main opposition party, All Peoples Congress (APC), Sidi Yahya Tunis, to address the issue.

Since Adebayor is believed to be a staunch supporter of the APC, Epic Radio sought to ascertain whether he was acting on the party’s orders, considering that the APC had not publicly disassociated themselves from Adebayo’s rhetoric.

During the Epic Morning Show, Tunis made it abundantly clear that they had repeatedly distanced themselves from Adebayor and anyone endorsing violence. He emphasized that claims suggesting otherwise were dishonest. Tunis emphasized that the APC is a party that promotes and supports peace, evident in their restraint despite facing numerous attacks from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party.

Tunis reiterated that Adebayor is not a member of the APC, and Adebayo himself has refuted claims of his affiliation with the party. Tunis asserted that Adebayo’s actions were unrelated to the APC; rather, they represented the concerns of citizens. He stated that the citizens have grievances with the ECSL (presumably referring to a specific entity or institution), and it is their right to demonstrate.

“If he is advocating for what the majority of the people are advocating for, it should not be politicized. As a government, you should not dismiss the people’s demands and instead tie them to politics. That is unfortunate,” Tunis remarked.

Moreover, Tunis expressed disappointment that the real issues were being ignored, highlighting the lack of journalists and civil society groups holding the government accountable for injustices against APC members. He pointed out instances where Samura Kamara, an APC member, had been teargassed multiple times without significant scrutiny or consequences.

Tunis concluded by questioning why people were solely condemning Adebayor instead of directing their condemnation towards the government and the Sierra Leone People’s Party. He questioned whether the lives of APC members were deemed insignificant.
