The Sierra Leone Bar Association has reminded the local public of their duty as the West African nation edges closer to its multitier election.

In a widely shared flyer, the Association quoted Section 13 of the 1991 Constitution which focuses on the rights and responsibilities of citizens in the electioneering process.

“Every citizen shall cultivate a sense of nationalism and patriotism so that loyalty to the state shall override sectional, ethnic, tribal or other loyalties,” the said Section reads.

Some members of the public have expressed delight in the message due to the current tension surrounding the elections.

In another news, the Chief Electoral Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Mohamed Kenewui Konneh has refused to accede to request made by the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara.

Kamara gave the ECSL Chief Electoral Commissioner and all Regional Commissioners 72 hours to resign on Wednesday afternoon.

Konneh, however, has refused citing their commitment to conduct the elections as planned.

Meanwhile, both the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and National Grand Coalition (NGC) have reposed confidence in Konneh.
