Sierra Leone’s president, Julius Maada Bio on Sunday 11th June 2023 promised the people of Konimakha Chiefdom that his government will provide water and a health centre for them in the next couple of months.
The president made this promise when speaking to the residents during his campaign tour in Kaibaya village, Konimaka Chiefdom, North-Western Sierra Leone, for the June 24, 2023 elections.
According to Bio, the chiefdom, a stronghold of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) is one of the most deprived in the country that needs to catch up with the development of other chiefdoms.
“The people of this chiefdom deserve clean and safe drinking water facilities, good health care, and many facilities. We have just completed the first half but in the second half, we will ensure that these facilities are brought here”, Bio said.
He mentioned that he has visited the chiefdom twice in his first term as president, adding that anytime he’s there, the people will say they want micro-credit which he will ensure that he provides.
“Let us join forces together to develop Sierra Leone. I have teamed up with some progressive Sierra Leoneans because there is a need for one Sierra Leone”.
He reminded his audience that power must be used judiciously for the betterment of the people not for selfish gains, saying that leaders should fight for the progress of the general good not to engage in fighting themselves.
Former parliamentary Leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC), Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, whose political party has formed an alliance with the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), said the people should overwhelmingly vote for President Bio because of his willingness to transform the country through agriculture and human capital development.
Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea, Alimamy Bangura told President Bio that the people of Konimaka Chiefdom were predominantly members of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party but have now decided to support the SLPP because of the transformation they have witnessed in the country in the last five years.
