The former Chairman of the Tonkolili District Council and a senior member of the All People’s Congress (APC) party from Tonkolili District have joined the ruling Sierra Leone’s People Party (SLPP).

Alusine Abdulai Sesay better known as Kamathor has also been selected and nominated by the SLPP to run for the Chairperson in the Northern District candidate.

In a letter to the leadership of the party, Sesay resigned from the APC a few months ago for reasons he says are personal. He served as the Tonkolili District Council Chairman under the All People’s Congress from 2012 – 2018 and was the party’s regional Youth leader.

In 2018, his relationship with the party leadership in Tonkolili especially the former District Chairman and Sierra Leones’s former Education Minister – Dr Minkilu Bah of blessed memory became bitter. During an APC District Executive election in Magburaka town, Sesay and other senior party members from Tonkolili were mercilessly beaten and lucked in a police cell.

Multiple unconfirmed reports indicated the former District Council Chairman was beaten by some brutal henchmen of the late Dr. Bah, and it was he who ordered his men because the victims opposed most of his decisions.

In an interview with this writer immediately after he is nominated as an SLPP candidate for the Tonkolili District Council in the 2023 elections, Kamathor said, he joined the SLPP because he believes it’s the only party that accepts people irrespective of their background.

President Bio, he said, has proven to be an honest leader with a vision to change Sierra Leone. He called on the people to vote for President Bio and the SLPP for sustainable development.
