Mohamed Bangura, Parliamentary Member of the All People’s Congress (APC), has publicly stated he feels unwanted by his party, revealing his suspension stemmed from “suspicious movements” and a breakdown of trust.
Bangura, who previously served with the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) and founded the United Democratic Movement (UDM), expressed his desire to remain with the APC, despite his recent suspension. “I don’t want to leave the party, but they are the ones that suspended me and said they do not want me,” he stated.
His remarks follow his declaration of intent to run for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer position in the 2028 elections, with ambitions to become President of Sierra Leone.
Bangura attributed the APC’s distrust to his relationships with President Julius Maada Bio and members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). “Is it a crime to build a relationship with President Bio, or with the SLPP to go to parliament?” he questioned.
He alleged the APC initially opposed his participation in parliament, fearing it would pressure the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to release election results.
Bangura defied this, arguing that parliamentary presence would provide a platform to demand the election data. He criticized the APC’s subsequent decision to eventually attend parliament, questioning their achievements.
Bangura also addressed his expulsion from the PMDC, citing his close association with former President Ernest Bai Koroma. He maintained that this relationship benefited the PMDC, as he consistently advocated for their interests. He also criticized the perception of political party switching in Sierra Leone.
