Umaru Napoleon Koroma, the former National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has issued a strong rebuttal against claims that funds “vanished” from the party’s accounts during his tenure.
In a statement released to address a video circulating on social media, Koroma described the allegations as “baseless” and clarified “unequivocally” that no funds went missing. He asserted that all expenses made under the previous leadership followed proper procedures and were supported by legitimate documentation.
While Koroma’s letter did not name the source of the allegations, reports indicate he is responding to a widely circulated video in which the First Lady allegedly claimed she deposited 1 billion Leones into the party’s accounts.
To resolve the matter, Koroma has invited the new party executive to conduct a forensic audit of his time in office.
“I am confident that such an examination will validate the integrity and transparency with which we managed the party’s finances, including the 1 million new leones deposited into the party’s account from the proceeds of our fundraising activities at the Bintumani Conference,” Koroma stated.
The former Secretary General also issued a warning to party leaders and stakeholders regarding internal rhetoric. He urged members to be cautious of statements that undermine those who served during challenging times, noting that such actions create divisions and jeopardize the unity of the SLPP.
Koroma called on the party membership to “tone down” and concentrate on the primary task of winning the 2028 elections to maintain and protect the legacy of President Julius Maada Bio.
“We all have a duty to communicate in a manner that is constructive, truthful, and in the best interest of the SLPP,” he added.
Koroma, who served as Secretary General from 2017 to 2025, concluded by affirming his willingness to offer his time and service to the party whenever required.
