Kaifala Marah, an APC flag bearer aspirant, has accused some political actors of manipulating the Constitution to justify actions that, he says, run counter to its true spirit.
Speaking on AYV Wake Up Salone, Dr. Marah said those who invoke the Constitution often ignore its underlying principles and instead “manipulate its provisions for the wrong purposes.”
He contrasted current consultation efforts with what he described as the more inclusive approach of former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, stating that present engagements appear “half-hearted.”
“People use the Constitution to justify actions that go against its true spirit. Instead of adhering to its underlying principles, they manipulate its provisions for the wrong purposes,” Dr. Marah said.
He further noted: “Mr. President, consultation today appears half-hearted, unlike the inclusive and genuine approach demonstrated by President Kabbah.”
Dr. Marah made the remarks during a discussion on governance and constitutional practice, where he urged leaders to return to the Constitution’s foundational intent rather than rely on selective interpretations for political purposes.
His comments add to ongoing public debate about the quality and inclusiveness of political consultations, with observers noting that such concerns reflect broader issues of transparency and adherence to democratic norms.
