The National Reformation Movement (NRM) has issued a stern warning to the All People’s Congress (APC) Party leadership, urging them to strictly adhere to the party’s 2022 Constitution.
The NRM, a key faction within the APC known for advocating internal reforms, emphasized the importance of unity and constitutional compliance within the party to avoid internal conflict and potential legal challenges.
In a press statement signed by its chairman, Ing. Philip Milo Kamara, the NRM expressed deep concern over what it describes as attempts to disregard or undermine the APC Constitution, particularly in relation to section 47(a and b(iv)), which mandates the party leader and deputy leader to step down from their positions within six months following the announcement of election results by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL), regardless of any ongoing petitions in court.
“The provisions of the APC 2022 Constitution are clear and unambiguous,” the NRM stated. “This Constitution, a product of extensive advocacy and calls for reform within the party, must be respected and upheld by all members without exception. The NRM, having been a major force behind these reforms, will not stand idly by while these hard-won changes are threatened.”
The movement reiterated its commitment to both electoral and constitutional justice, warning that failure to uphold the party’s Constitution could lead to further electoral injustice. The NRM called on all APC members and stakeholders to conduct themselves in accordance with the law and democratic principles, and to support ongoing peace-building initiatives within the party.
In addition to their concerns about constitutional adherence, the NRM expressed alarm over the increasing dissemination of hate speech by certain bloggers and national figures across party lines. According to the movement, these divisive messages are exacerbating internal divisions within the APC and hindering the party’s efforts to mount a strong opposition ahead of future elections.
“The path to victory requires unity, respect for our Constitution, and a collective resolve,” the NRM declared. “We urge all party comrades to remain vigilant in safeguarding our democratic principles and to promote messages of unity and reconciliation. A divided party cannot effectively lead, and our strength lies in our ability to work together toward our common goals.”
The NRM’s message is clear: any attempts to violate the APC’s Constitution will be met with strong resistance, and the party’s leadership must act swiftly to maintain unity and uphold the principles that underpin their organization. As the APC faces a crucial period of introspection and reorganization, the NRM’s call for constitutional integrity and internal harmony will likely shape the party’s future direction.
