Opposition Leader Hon. Abdul Kargbo has rejected calls for direct talks with Chief Minister Dr. David Sengeh, stating that recent public remarks attributed to the Chief Minister regarding the All People’s Congress (APC) party executive make meaningful dialogue difficult.

Hon. Kargbo made the statement during an online phone interview with Liberty Online TV on 3 March 2026.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions surrounding the implementation of recommendations made by the Tripartite Committee, established following the disputed 2023 multi-tier elections. The committee, composed of representatives from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), the opposition APC, and designated moral guarantors, produced a set of proposals aimed at reforming the country’s electoral system and restoring public trust.

The committee’s report has since formed the basis of negotiations between political stakeholders, with observers and international envoys urging steady progress in implementing the agreed measures. The recommendations include reforms related to electoral management, transparency mechanisms, and confidence-building initiatives designed to reduce post-election tensions.

Hon. Kargbo indicated that the APC’s immediate focus is ensuring that the government fully implements the Tripartite Committee’s recommendations before further political engagements are considered.

The development adds a new dimension to ongoing political dialogue efforts, as stakeholders continue to monitor progress on electoral reforms and broader reconciliation initiatives.
