The Sierra Leone Presidential election is fast approaching, and the race is heating up as Prince Coker of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Mohamed Sowa Turay of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) have today, 3 May 2023 successfully gone through the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) Presidential Nomination process.
The two candidates assured the Chief Electoral Commissioner of their commitment to peace during and after the June 24 general elections.
In an interview with journalists at the ECSL Headquarters, Mohamed Sowa Turay emphasized his commitment to unifying a sharply divided country, while also tackling the current economic challenges.
He said that the current economic challenges Sierra Leone is currently facing are not a peculiar problem but a global crisis that he is committed to tackling when he attained the seat of presidency.
Prince Coker, the PDP Presidential Candidate, expressed confidence in winning the election and providing solutions to tackle the country’s economic challenges.
He also pointed out that citizens are tired of both the APC and SLPP, adding that as the youngest presidential aspirant, he is confident of winning the June 24 Presidential elections.
Asked why he did not just join one of the emerging alliances, he said, “We will cross the bridge when we get there.”
The Presidential Nomination is the legal process by which ECSL screens the candidates recommended by political parties, approves their candidacy, and prints their names on the ballot paper.
