In this new year’s address to his supporters and the nation, one of the flagbearer hopefuls of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Richard Konteh, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all those who have been with him in thick and in thin in the race to win the flagbearer race and eventually becomes president of Sierra Leone come 2023.

“As I reflect on this year, there is one word that comes to mind: Grateful. I am grateful to my family and friends who supported me when I decided to begin this political journey. I am grateful to our incredible team of Unifier volunteers and supporters at home and in the diaspora, who believed in me and trusted in my leadership,” said Konteh.

Dr. Konteh, who served as deputy Finance Minister, Trade Minister and Chief of Staff to former President Ernest Bai Koroma is running under the acronym’ The Unifier’. “Throughout these challenging years, you have been there with me. Thanks to your dedication and hard work which made it possible for us to connect with
so many Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad.”

Konteh believes that with unity and tranquility, “we will build a prosperous future for all of us and for our future generations.” “Together, we shall grow a more resilient economy and build safer and more inclusive communities. Together, we will stand for gender equality, diversity, good governance, fundamental human rights and justice. Together, we shall unite this country and offer every Sierra Leonean an equal opportunity to actualize his or her potentials.”

As a man from a minority tribe-Loko, a tribe that has no boundary in terms interaction, Dr. Konteh believes his leadership will have no room for tribalism in the country.

“Never again shall we allow our society to be defined by tribe, region, name or Party affiliation. We shall unite our country and make all of us proud again to be called Sierra Leoneans,” he said.

Dr. Konteh is a pious Christian and in his message, he didn’t mince his word to recognize the omnipotence of God. “There is a lot of work ahead, but I know that with God, we shall overcome. With your support, we can accomplish so many great things.

That is why I am reaching out today, with the hope that you will join me, DUnifier team, and many Sierra Leoneans who have chipped in to help change our future for the better. I look forward to 2022 with renewed strength, hope and confidence that we will make Sierra Leone a better place together.”
