Campaign flyers promoting Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Jabbie Maada Bio, as a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential election circulated widely on social media platforms this week, igniting public discussion about the upcoming political race.
The posters, boldly displaying Fatima Bio’s picture with the inscription, “After Bio Na Bio”, were seen in high-traffic social media forums, including WhatsApp, Twitter and X (formerly Twitter).
The emergence of these campaign materials has elicited varied reactions from political observers. Some have welcomed the early start to campaign discussions, viewing it as a sign of growing public interest in the 2028 presidential contest. Others have weighed in with their opinions on the First Lady’s potential candidacy.
Robin Ansumana Thomas commented, “It’s not about her being the current president’s wife; what matters is that she has a genuine plan to transform Sierra Leone. As long as that’s the case, I am willing to join her in making that vision a reality.”
Thomas Stevens humorously questioned, “If Fatima Bio be president who go take over the first lady office nah Maada Bio?”
Sheka Forna (@tonkolili) posted a cryptic message on X, quoting song lyrics about fortune and fame being illusions.
“And as for fortune, and as for fame
I never invited them in
Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired
They are illusions, they’re not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you, and hope you love me.” pic.twitter.com/WDIsixrmD5— Sheka Forna (@tonkolili) June 11, 2025
Kelvin Doe remarked on the challenges of political understanding in Sierra Leone, stating, “Logic is really hard. An obvious yet overlooked reason why a country like ours, with so much potential, has so many problems (both real and imagined) is simply because so many Sierra Leoneans have to be schooled into it, and even then, the world of politics shows it doesn’t stick.”
The flyers surfaced nearly a year after Dr. Fatima Maada Bio publicly addressed and debunked similar rumors about her presidential ambitions.
Sierraloaded reported in July 2024 how Fatima Bio firmly denied any intention of pursuing the presidency, emphasizing her unwavering support for President Maada Bio and his “Big 5 Game Changer” initiatives, including the “Feed Salone” program.
At the time, Dr. Bio urged the public and media to focus on her husband’s achievements rather than spreading unfounded claims. “Please, if you want to write about such things, say it is your opinion and not write as if I sent it to you,” she asserted, reiterating that her agenda aligns with President Maada Bio’s until 2028 and that her commitment remains in her role as First Lady.
Despite her previous statements, the recent circulation of the “After Bio Na Bio” flyers suggests that speculation about Dr. Fatima Bio’s future political role continues to be a topic of public interest as the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) prepares for a potentially competitive battle for its 2028 presidential flagbearer position.
Fatima is a strong woman and that’s the reason I will vote for her. She is a role model for girls women of Sierra Leone. May God give her wisdom in all she does.
I love to see Madam Fatima Maada Bio be the next President
I know if given the chance will make more positive impacts than her husband. She is bold, confronts situations according to the prevailing circumstances, eg. the Koidu Holdings saga and the hands off our girls initiative and several global advocacies. She’s stronger than most men who have made their intentions known the flagbearerships in both the SLPP and the APC.
Another unique attributes she possesses are; wide international recognition, eloquency, commitment and dedication. This can be justified by the many international awards, invitations by international bodies to chair so many international conferences, meetings and platforms.
In my opinion, if given the chance to exercise her franchise as a Sierra Leonean, she will make this country a better place.
Please think of it my people.
You guys didn’t know nothing people are dying with hunger under this woman regim as she is the first lady then is the same also you want to give power we will wait and see if it will happen that will impossible
When people are talking about “clean crease man” i think they are doing fun but really they are saying the truth,a good number of platforms owners in SL are BECE students 😄😄these women, president 😁😁 lord forbid 🚫 on her dreams
My people will never go for that. Why do you address her as Dr? She’s NOT and it’s an insult to us who worked so earnestly to earn that title. As a journalist you should know that when a university gives you their honorary degree, that’s what it is, you do not call yourself Dr, except when you are in the vicinity of the university that gave it to uou
