In a press statement released on the 20th October, 2023, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) expressed its appreciation for the recent mediated dialogue between the Government of Sierra Leone and the All People’s Congress Party (APC).
The dialogue aimed to foster peace consolidation and strengthen interparty relations in the nation.
The SLPP highlighted its approval of the Government’s commitment to assist in the resettlement of individuals who were displaced due to election-related violence during the June 24th, 2023 multi-tier elections. In accordance with the agreement, the SLPP will provide a comprehensive list of its affected supporters to the Government for consideration. Similar lists will be prepared and submitted for other matters covered in the agreement.
Furthermore, the SLPP joined both the Government of Sierra Leone and the APC in denouncing any individuals who incite violence, whether online or offline. The party pledged to collaborate closely with the Government to ensure that those responsible for such actions face justice.
The statement expressed gratitude to the facilitators of the mediated dialogue, including the African Union, the Commonwealth, and ECOWAS, and highlighted the crucial role played by Her Excellency Madam Haja Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, the mediation facilitator.
The SLPP also extended its thanks to diplomatic missions in Sierra Leone and development partners who participated in the process and committed to supporting the implementation of the signed Agreement between the Government of Sierra Leone and the APC.
In closing, the SLPP called upon its members and all Sierra Leoneans to accept the “Agreement for National Unity” and continue to uphold law and order, contributing to the maintenance of peace in the nation.
The party congratulated Sierra Leone as a whole, stating that this dialogue represents a collective victory for the nation, a testament to the people’s resilience in seeking peaceful solutions to challenges that hinder national development.
