The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is poised for a significant transformation as it prepares to adopt a new constitution during its upcoming National Delegates’ Conference (NDC) in 2026.

This announcement was made by Chief Minister and Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, at a recent gathering in the southern region of the country.

Dr. Sengeh emphasized that the ongoing constitutional review process is the most progressive and inclusive in the history of the party.

He assured members that the new constitution will align closely with the national constitution and adhere to international best practices, promoting transparency and inclusivity within the party.

“The new constitution will reflect the voices and contributions of our party members,” he stated. “We are committed to ensuring that this document resonates with our national identity and the democratic values we uphold.”

As part of the review process, the SLPP will launch a nationwide consultation tour to gather input from party members. This initiative aims to incorporate diverse perspectives and suggestions into the constitution, particularly focusing on critical areas such as boundary delimitations and the election of officers under the current Proportional Representation (PR) and District Block System.

Dr. Sengeh highlighted that these changes are essential to ensure the party remains relevant and responsive to the needs of its members.

He expressed confidence that the new constitution will strengthen the party’s foundation and enhance its operational effectiveness as it moves toward the 2026 elections.
