The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has officially announced the commencement of its election process to elect new executive members across various levels of the party.
This process will encompass Sections, Zones, Chiefdoms, Constituencies, Districts, Regions, and the National level, ensuring the continued effective administration of the party.
In a public notice, the SLPP’s National Secretariat outlined the following key points:
National Executive Council Meeting:
A National Executive Council (NEC) meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Party Headquarters, starting at 11 a.m. This meeting will discuss and approve the timetable for the executive elections and the National Delegates Conference for electing National Officers. All NEC members are urged to attend promptly.
Election Guidelines: The elections will adhere to the rules and regulations published on February 5, 2021, in Vol CXLXII No. 6 of Government Notice No. 22.
Consensus Building: For Sectional and Zonal elections, the party encourages consensus in electing executives at the local level. If consensus is not reached, elections will be held to select the executive members.
Voter Eligibility: Only fully registered and paid-up party members in their respective Sections and Zones will be eligible to vote in those elections.
Validation Process: Voter validation will be conducted by existing sectional/zonal executives, constituency officials, and district representatives, ensuring that all registered voters are correctly affiliated with their respective Sections/Zones.
Member Registration: Members wishing to participate in the elections are encouraged to register, pay their dues, and submit their names to their respective Sections or Zones. Already registered members should also submit their details for validation.
Publication of Voter List: A list of registered members will be published at the election venues at least two days before the elections. This list, once validated, will be sent to the National Secretariat, with copies to the District and Regional Secretariats.
Participation Restrictions: Any party member whose name does not appear on the Sectional or Zonal list will not be allowed to participate in the elections at that level.
The SLPP has expressed its commitment to ensuring a smooth, transparent, and democratic election process and urged all members to actively participate and uphold the party’s democratic values.
