The National Executive Council (NEC) of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) convened a meeting at the party’s headquarters on Wallace Johnson Street, Freetown, to deliberate on key issues, including internal party governance and preparations for upcoming elections.

In a resolution passed at the meeting, the NEC announced a six-month extension of the tenure for the party’s executive at all levels—Sectional, Zonal, Constituency, District, Branch, Regional, and National. This decision is aimed at enabling various executive bodies to conduct internal elections at their respective levels.

The Council also directed the National Executive to submit a timeline for lower-level elections, including the associated rules and regulations, to the NEC by the second week of January 2025.

Additionally, the NEC reaffirmed its commitment to reviewing the party’s August 2020 constitution in light of responses received from various regional and other party stakeholders. The review process will continue in alignment with the party’s constitution and the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.

The party issued strict directives regarding the leadership/flagbearer campaign, prohibiting any member from campaigning for the position until officially permitted by the NEC. Regional, district, constituency, chiefdom, zonal, and sectional leaders were also instructed to prevent the use of party resources for unauthorized campaigns.

“Any member found in breach of these directives will face severe disciplinary measures, including potential disqualification,” the resolution stated.

The NEC urged members to prioritize unity within the party and maintain peace and calm in the country, particularly as Sierra Leone approaches the next electoral cycle.

The resolutions were signed and issued by Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq., the National Secretary-General of the SLPP.
