Sudan sealed a 1-0 victory from six yards defeating Sierra Leone in Khartoum on Sunday, as the two teams kicked off their 2017 AFCON qualifying campaign in Group I.
It was a narrow victory for Sudan at their Khartoum National Stadium. A Penalty was awarded to the host, Uganda referee Dennis Bate pointing to the spot after Abu Suma handles the ball in the area.
The spot kick was converted by Agab Ramadan for the breakthrough in 77 min.
The win sees Sudan top Group I with three points ahead of joint second placed Cote d’Ivoire and Gabon who played to a 0-0 draw in the group’s other match on Sunday.
It was a rather dull opening first half with very few chances in front of goal, but Sierra Leone defender Mohamed Kamanor was the first to put the ball back of the net from an offside.
Sudan standing tall continued to press forward, Leone Stars defense canceled out all threats until the 76min when the host was awarded a penalty.
After the goal, Sudan were the better side they end the tie very strong as well managed to keep Sierra Leone out.
