The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has congratulated the Under-23 Men’s National Team for qualifying to the final qualifying round of the TotalEnergies Under-23 AFCON, Morocco 2023.

FAZ president Andrew Kamanga says the Association will prepare the team with international matches before the March final round of qualifiers.
“On behalf of my executive and the entire football family I wish to congratulate the under-23 national team for making the important step of qualifying to the next round of the AFCON. They did so against a strong and highly motivated opponent,” says Kamanga.

“Our objective is to have as many teams as possible participate in premium competitions on the continent and beyond. We already have the under-20 qualified to the AFCON next year while the Copper Queens will be at the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year.”

Zambia will wait for the winner between Egypt and Eswatini for their final round opponent.
Kamanga has also thanked the fans that turned up at National Heroes Stadium to support the under-23 squad.

“A special thank you to the fans that gave the team support during the home match. We will need even more of their support in the final round as their presence tends to spur the team on,” he says.
“Our teams have felt the support of the fans across all seasons and will always endeavour to repay that support with positive results.”

Zambia beat Sierra Leone 1-0 on Saturday at National Heroes Stadium to qualify 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 first leg result in Monrovia.
