Leones Stars head Coach Amidu Karim, along with his assistants Francis Koroma and Alhaji Foray, formally sealed a significant deal on Thursday, December 14, by signing a two-year contract with the Sierra Leone Football Association.
This agreement, endorsed by the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority, solidifies their roles in steering the national football team, Leone Stars.
The contract period, spanning from Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023, to Wednesday, October 15, 2025, encapsulates the crucial phases of both the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2025 Africa Cup Nations Qualifications.
Amidu Karim’s appointment as the head coach brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the helm of the Leone Stars. His illustrious journey in football encompasses both playing and coaching, marking him as a revered figure in Sierra Leonean football circles.
His roots in representing Sierra Leone across various national teams, from U-17 to the senior national team, form the foundation of his football legacy. Karim made his debut for the senior national team in 1990 against Cameroon and was part of the Sierra Leone squad during the African Cup of Nations in 1994 to 1996, where they clinched the Zone 2 Championship in 1994.
His club career saw him play for esteemed clubs like Suez FC, ENPPI FC, and Shibin El Kom FC, all based in Egypt, enriching his football prowess.
Transitioning into coaching, Karim spent an impressive 11 years as the coach of FC Kallon before taking up roles within the national team setup. He served as an assistant coach for the Sierra Leone Senior team from 2017 to 2023 and took charge as the Head Coach of the Sierra Leone U-23 team from 2021 to 2022. Additionally, he contributed as Assistant Coach during the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon, working alongside Head Coach John Keister for the Sierra Leone National team.
Karim’s coaching credentials boast a CAF A license, further underscoring his proficiency and qualifications in steering the Leone Stars towards success on both the continental and global football stage.
