Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio, met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in New York to explore ways to strengthen grassroots and women’s football in the country.
“Football in Sierra Leone is more than just a sport,” President Bio stated. “It is a source of joy, hope, and unity for our people.”
As part of the discussion, President Bio expressed strong support for FIFA’s Global Citizen Education initiative and pledged Sierra Leone’s active participation in the FIFA for Schools programme, aiming to empower youth through football-based learning.
FIFA Global Citizen Education is a more recent initiative introduced under FIFA’s broader commitment to using football as a tool for social development and education. It focuses on teaching values such as tolerance, respect, equality, and civic responsibility through football-based content.
FIFA for Schools is a global programme launched by FIFA in collaboration with UNESCO. It aims to make football more accessible to children by integrating it into the education system, using the sport as a tool for both physical development and life skills education.
