Bambara Tong FC defeated the defending champions of the COFA INTER-COMMUNITY LEAGUE Kroo Town Road 1-0 in the opening fixture over the weekend at the Parade Field.
Thousands of supporters made their way to the Central part of Freetown to witness the cracking encounter. Momoh Kabba of BAMBARA Tong came very close to breaking the deadlock but his powerful shot was parred away by the outstanding goalkeeper of Kroo Town Road Francis Koroma.
Mahmoud Fofana blasted a shot over the goal after he was played through goal by Musa N. Kamara that would have put Kroo Town Road in front. The shot stopper of Bambra Tong Isaac Caulker was called into action again after a Mahmoud Fofana’s cross was met with a fine header by the captain of Kroo Town Road Quame Quee.
Ibrahim Kamara (Rashford) the young lad from Lamboi FC breaks the deadlock in the first half after Mohamed Turay’s cross was met with a lovely header that sends thousands of Bambara Tong supporters into pandemonium.
Mohamed Turay almost doubled the lead for Bambara Tong in the early stages of the second half but goalkeeper Francis Koroma was in a good position to push the shot out for a corner. Kamara missed a clear chance after he was played one on one with the goalkeeper but his tame shot went wide.
The winner of this season championship will walk away with a cash prize of Le 50.000NLe, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up team will go home with Nle30.000 and NLe 20.000 respectively.
