As the new season in the Sierra Leone Premier League unfolds this weekend, East End Lions winger, Mohamed Forbie has affirmed that the team will be crowned champions this 2024/25 season.

“We have been training intensively and we are well-prepared to win the title this season,” Forbie said in an exclusive interview. “We have the coach and the players to win the league no doubt.”

The winger added that expectations from fans of the club will be high like always.

“East End Lions is a massive club and expectations from fans are always high,” he said. He continued that since the club is a big club, players and management are always under pressure to deliver. Forbie stated that the management and players are aware of this monumental task and that they prepared to live up to expectation.

Last season, the Freetown-based club finished fourth in the table after facing a relegation scare during the first half of the campaign. Forbie, who saw out his contract at Mighty Blackpool, joined the Killers at the end of the first-half of the campaign when Lions was the bottom of the table.

The prolific winger was among three players and one coach that joined the team after the club axed their coach, Charlie Wright in December after a defeat by eastern Freetown rivals, Ports Authority. Although the winger failed to record a goal, he was able to lead the assist table of the club for last season.

Lions last won the league in 2019 in a stylish fashion going undefeated throughout the campaign.

However, the team appears to be a shadow of its past glory falling short behind a newly-resurgent Bo Rangers.

The club has recruited several foreign players like Guineans Aliya Bangura and Sam Diallo;  Nigerian David Godswill.

The Killers will start their campaign this season by playing host to Bullom Stars on Christmas eve at Approved School Field in Freetown.
