Popular civil society activist Edmond Abu has been elected as the new President of the Rugby Union, succeeding in his bid for leadership in the recent election held on August 10, 2024.
Delegates of the Sierra Leone Rugby Union unanimously elected Edmond Abu as President during their elective Congress today. Abu, who has garnered significant recognition for his work as a national team manager and CEO of Native Bulls Rugby Club, ran on a platform of fresh leadership and renewed vision for the Rugby Union. His candidacy was officially announced prior to the election, which was overseen by the Ministry of Sports (MoS), the National Sports Authority (NSA), and the National Olympic Committee (NOC).
Abu takes over from the outgoing President, Jeremiah Moshopeh Pratt, who dissolved his executive to allow the new team to take over.
The election took place at the Olympic House on College Road, Godrich, on Saturday10th August 2024. Abu’s victory marks a significant change in the Rugby Union’s leadership, promising new directions and enhancements under his stewardship.
