Yesterday’s event saw an impressive turnout, with a large number of Sierra Leoneans traveling to Monrovia to support their national team in the TotalEnergies AFCON Qualifiers. The enthusiasm of the Sierra Leonean community in Liberia added to the vibrant atmosphere at the SKD Sports Complex.

The influx of visitors filled hotels in Liberia to capacity, providing a boost to the local economy. However, despite the excitement and anticipation, many fans were left disappointed by the goalless draw against Chad, a team perceived to have a lower ranking.

The event was attended by notable delegations from institutions such as the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), the National Sports Authority (NSA), government officials, Babadi Kamara, and other prominent sports administrators, journalists, and fans, highlighting the strong support for the national team.

Sierra Leone is currently facing the challenge of playing their home matches away due to the renovation of Siaka Stevens Stadium. As a result, most of their home games have been held in Liberia and Morocco. This arrangement underscores the team’s resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges.

Next, Leone Stars will face Zambia’s Chipolopolo on Tuesday, 10th September 2024. Cote d’Ivoire leads Group G with three points after a notable victory over Zambia yesterday. Chad and Sierra Leone follow closely, each with one point, while Zambia sits at the bottom with no points after their first match.
