Minister of Sports, Mrs. Augusta James Tiema, announced that the Government of Sierra Leone has secured an agreement with the People’s Republic of China to install seating in the rehabilitated National Stadium.
This development comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s sports facilities and promote international standards in sporting events.
During a press conference, Tiema emphasized that the installation of seating was not part of the original rehabilitation plan for the stadium. However, she explained that the delay was crucial to ensure that the facility meets international standards, thereby making it suitable for hosting both local and international events. “Our aim is to provide a world-class sporting environment that can host major competitions and attract visitors to Sierra Leone,” she stated.
The National Stadium, a central hub for sports in the country, is expected to be fully operational within a year, significantly contributing to the promotion of sports and recreation in Sierra Leone. The Minister expressed her gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio for his intervention and support in facilitating this agreement with the Chinese government, highlighting his commitment to improving the nation’s sports infrastructure.
The Minister further reassured the public that the project will be executed with the utmost professionalism and efficiency.
Hmm, no maintenance culture. Always running back to the Chinese to maintain their “gift” to us after how many decades.
