The International University Sports Federation (FISU), Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC), and the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) have all joined other International Sports Bodies to sympathize with Sierra Leone University Sports Federation for the loss of their President, Ibrahim Bangura.
A letter signed by the FISU Acting FISU Acting President, Leonz Eder and Eric Saintrond-FISU Secretary General/CEO, stated: “Dear Friends, On behalf of the International University Sports Federation, please accept our sincere condolences following the sad passing of your President, Mr Ibrahim Bangura. Our deepest sympathies are with you all. Mr Bangura dedicated so much of his time to university sports in Sierra Leone and, although his legacy will remain, he will be greatly missed. Please know that we stand with you and his family at this time. May His Soul Rest In Peace.”
Also, a letter from the Federation of University Sports of China addressed to the President of FASU, Ms. Nomsa Mahlangu, and Secretary-General, Ms. Peninnah Kabenge, stated: “On behalf of Federation of University Sports of China and in my own name, I felt so upset to hear of the passing of Mr. Ibrahim Bangura, President of Sierra Leone University Sports Federation, which was a big loss for our university sports family.”
“Being one of the enthusiasts and advocators in sports, Mr. Ibrahim Bangura will be remembered for his outstanding contributions to the university sports movement in both Sierra Leone and FASU. Meanwhile, he has been committed to promoting friendly exchanges between China and Sierra Leone for a long time and under his leadership, close friendship between our two federations has been strengthened during the past years.”
“More importantly, he has spared no effort to speak for African university sports and spread the development of the sport among African university students. Please accept the deepest condolence by FUSC to Mr. Ibrahim Bangura’s family and friends; he will be missed forever, with best personal regards.”
The late Bangura who was former President of the Sierra Leone Weightlifting Association and also former Director of Sports passed away in England after a long illness.
