Former Leone Stars Striker, Kei Kamara made his debut for Los Angeles FC on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win, as the Colorado Rapids emerged victorious 3-2 in a thrilling MLS encounter at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The Rapids fought back twice from one-goal deficits to claim all three points. A win for LAFC would have seen them temporarily jump to the top of the Western Conference standings, but with the loss, they remain in eighth place with seven points from six games.
Kamara, a recent signing for LAFC for the 2024 season with a potential extension for 2025, entered the match in the 77th minute. The 39-year-old striker boasts a decorated career, having been named an MLS All-Star twice (2015, 2023) and earning a spot on the 2015 MLS Best XI after a record-breaking 22-goal season with the Columbus Crew. He also took home the 2015 MLS Works Humanitarian of the Year award and was part of the Sporting Kansas City team that lifted the 2012 U.S. Open Cup trophy.
This Los Angeles debut marks a return to familiar territory for Kamara, having started his professional soccer journey in Southern California. It also adds another chapter to his already impressive record of playing for the most MLS teams in history.
The Rapids capitalized on a one-man advantage late in the game, with Djordje Mihailovic delivering the final blow in the 89th minute. His goal sealed a memorable victory and propelled Colorado to third place in the Western Conference standings.
