Mohamed Kallon, the head coach of Kallon FC, has confirmed that Bo Rangers FC is currently the best football team in Sierra Leone.
His statement comes after the Sierra Leonean league champions Bo Rangers drew 1-1 with San Pedro of Ivory Coast in a CAF competition match. Kallon, a well-respected figure in Sierra Leonean football, praised Bo Rangers for their energy, determination, and recent successes.
“I’m in Bo City to support both representatives of Sierra Leone in the CAF competitions, Bo Rangers and East End Lions. Yesterday’s encounter between Bo Rangers and San Pedro clearly confirmed to me that Bo Rangers is the best team in Sierra Leone, and they have what it takes to be great in Africa,” Kallon stated.
Reflecting on the 2020 league season, Kallon admitted that he initially believed match officials and the Premier League Board (PLB) were favoring Bo Rangers due to affiliations with the former PLB chairman. However, after closely following their games, he was impressed by their performance. “After five games, I called a meeting with our players and confessed that Bo Rangers deserved every success in recent years,” he added.
Kallon emphasized that Sierra Leonean football is becoming more competitive, with Bo Rangers leading the way. He noted their strong mentality, physical strength, and resistance, but advised that they need to improve ball mastery and team cohesion. He also highlighted the importance of tactical understanding, stating that the lack of football education in Sierra Leone remains a significant challenge.
Speaking on Bo Rangers’ draw with San Pedro, Kallon praised their performance but mentioned areas for improvement, such as high pressing to force mistakes. He also stressed the need for better football systems in Sierra Leone, including developing a football manual and methodology to guide players.
“If we continue to compete in these tournaments, trust me, in the next five years, the sky will be the limit,” Kallon concluded.
