In a significant development for Sierra Leone’s athletics community, Alhassan Kamara was elected President of the Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA) Northeast Region in a landmark election held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Tonkolili District Council Hall.
Kamara secured the presidency after defeating Sheku Kabba in a decisive ballot vote by delegate members. His victory signals a new direction for athletics in the region, with promises of growth and development under his leadership.
In other key positions, Yayah Koroma was elected Vice President after a close contest with Francis Turay, while Beatrice A. Bangura won the Treasurer role by defeating Emma Tarawalie.
The election process was overseen by Commissioner Dr. Idriss O. Kamara, with Mr. Augustine A. Kargbo and Mr. Samuel Sebora Kamara serving as presiding officers. The presence of National Sports Authority (NSA) Sports Coordinator Mr. Lamin Sesay and SLAA representative Mr. Desmond Thorpe lent additional oversight to the proceedings.
