The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has confirmed that the current Leone Star’s head coach, John Keister will take charge of the Leone Stars’ final Group A AFCON qualifier against Guinea Bissau in September.
The news came following rumors of the appointment of a new coach as the Technical Team contract is valid till the end of August 2023.
Sierra Leone currently sits third in Group A and will be playing their final match to wrap up the AFCON qualifiers, despite having already gone out.
Meanwhile, SLFA has made the following clarifications ahead of Leone Stars Clash with Guinea Bissau in September:
1. SLFA has not made any new appointments of coaches/Technical Staff in the Sierra Leone National Team.
2. The substantive Head Coach of Leone Stars John Keister remains in charge as his three-year contract is still valid until the end of August 2023.
3. Since his contract will expire a week before match-day 6 of the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers between Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone, SLFA has further temporarily engaged Keister and his backroom staff for their service for the said match. The Sierra Leone Football Association would therefore like to assure the general public that it will communicate, through its official media channels, any further information regarding the status of the Leone Stars Technical Team after the Guinea Bissau-Sierra Leone encounter scheduled for early September in Bissau.”
