The Sierra Leone national football team, Leone Stars, has maintained its position in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking released on January 19.

The team remains ranked 120th globally and 33rd on the African continent.

In the first ranking update of the new year, Sierra Leone’s standing reflects a period of inactivity following the conclusion of the 2025 calendar. With no international matches played since the previous ranking in December, the team’s total points have held steady at approximately 1149.10.

This stagnation comes as the national team shifts its focus toward long-term rebuilding efforts. Following a challenging end to 2025, which saw the conclusion of their World Cup qualifying campaign and the retirement of legendary captain Kei Kamara, the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has pivoted its attention to the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

At the top of the African standings, fierce competition continues. Morocco remains the continent’s highest-ranked team, holding the 8th spot globally. They are followed by AFCON champions Senegal, who sit at 12th in the world. The Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed to become the third-best team in Africa, while Algeria and Egypt round out the continent’s top five.

On the global stage, Spain continues to reign supreme, occupying the number one spot.

The top ten is dominated by traditional powerhouses, with World Cup champions Argentina in second and France in third. The rest of the top ten includes England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany.
