The runner-up in the 2021/22 Sierra Leone Premier League season East End Lions FC has kick-started the new campaign on a high note with a 3-1 away victory over Lamboi FC one of the debutants in the league on Saturday, 10th December 2022 at the Lungi field.
Striker Sulaiman S. Kargbo one of the club’s new acquisitions give his side an earlier lead in the fourth minute to open his goal account at East End Lions, Mohamed A.K Koroma who was also named man of the match doubled the lead to 2-0 in the seventh minute marking his first league goal since he joined the club earlier this year in January.
Abdul Razak Conteh extended the lead to 3- 0 in the second-half proceedings of the match with a sensational left-footed strike, however, a few minutes later Lamboi’s captain Basiru Olu hit the net but was not enough for his side to salvage a point in the first time both supporters and residents witnessing Premier League actions of a club residing in Lungi.
East End Lions FC triumphed over Lamboi Football Club marking the first time after two seasons the team is winning its league opening match after a defeat against Ports Authority 1-0 and Bo Rangers FC 2-1 in the previous seasons.
Kemson Fofanah the club’s skipper speaking to NewsFeed Sierra Leone after the match, described the victory as a huge motivation which has strengthened the unity among them the players “we want to thank God for the victory, it demonstrates how our head coach and his technical team have been hardworking as we have started overcoming the challenges we encountered in the previous seasons” he maintained.
He added that the new season will be very competitive but the away win Lungi is an inspirational one to the new journey “frankly enough this new league season is very competitive, you must not underrate any team in the league as all of them have formidable squads, however as players of East End Lions we will continue to remain focused and appease the executive and supporters of the club” Kemson ascribed.
