The CEO of Luawa FC, Dr Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esquire, has urged the people of Kailahun District in Eastern Sierra Leone to take complete ownership of their football club.

According to Newsfeed Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai made this disclosure During an online interview with a local radio station before a match

Luawa FC’s senior team currently plays in the country’s top-tier league and recently won a match against Wusum Stars FC with a 1-0 victory.

Defender Edward Fornah scored the decisive goal from a penalty spot in the 15th minute, helping the club maintain its unbeaten run in the second leg.

Dr Abdulai established Luawa FC as a non-division side in Freetown nine years ago. After the team was promoted to the Sierra Leone Premier League, he decided to move the team’s second-leg home matches to Kailahun.

This decision aimed to change the narrative around the district, which has had limited discussions on education and little representation in the national teams or professional football.

Dr Abdulai hopes that Luawa FC’s success will inspire more players from Kailahun to break these barriers.

Dr Abdulai emphasized the importance of the Luawa FC academy in providing a pathway for grassroots football in Kailahun.

He also commended the support he has received from stakeholders and fans, including donations from the Paramount Chief, MPs, and other stakeholders, as well as ticket sales.

However, Dr Abdulai highlighted that hosting every match costs him between NLe 20,000 to NLe 30,000, which includes transportation, hotel accommodation, and match allowances.

Therefore, he appealed to all natives of Kailahun, both at home and abroad, to take full ownership of Luawa FC and occupy executive positions or serve on the Board of Directors to achieve bigger dreams for the district.
