The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) on Friday held a moving memorial service at its headquarters in Freetown to honor the late Lamin Bangura, who tragically lost his life in a car accident while traveling with his team- Ports Authority to honor a Premier League fixture in Kenema.

The event was attended by SLFA President *Thomas Daddy Brima, Vice President-1 Harold Nat-Johnson, and a cross-section of the Executive Committee. Also present were the family of the deceased and hundreds of football administrators and fans.

President Brima opened the ceremony with words of comfort for the bereaved family, assuring them of the football association’s unwavering support during these difficult times. “The association remains committed to preserving Bangura’s legacy and supporting his family in their time of need”. President Brima said.

Vice President-1 Harold Nat-Johnson paid a heartfelt tribute to Bangura on behalf of the Football Association, recalling fond memories of their time together. Nat-Johnson praised Bangura’s exceptional patriotism, highlighting his dedication to football both as a player and a coach.

Bangura, in addition to serving as the Head Coach of Premier League club Ports Authority, was a former Sierra Leone National Team (Leone Stars) defender. He also made significant contributions to Sierra Leonean football as a coach, leading the National U17 and U23 teams.

The memorial service was marked by several tributes from football heroes and officials, underscoring Bangura’s impact on the sport. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of footballers in Sierra Leone.

Following the memorial service and other ceremonies Bangura’s body was laid to rest at the Kissi Road Cemetery in Freetown, where he will forever rest in peace.
